African American Wigs Come in All Styles

African American wigs are used by men and women for several reasons ranging from an attempt to hide permanent or temporary hair loss, to cover damaged or brittle hair, or to simply and quickly change a hair style or color from one day to the next.

Some of the types of wigs on the market include those that are braided, those that have dreadlocks, those that have straight hair, and those that have curly hair. Just about every style desired can be found in a wig… and if it's not available, it can be custom made.

Ethnic Textures

When an African American chooses to purchase and wear a wig, a decision has to be made... should the wig be made of synthetic fibers or natural hair? If natural hair is chosen, then the wearer must determine whether or not the natural hair will be Caucasian hair, African hair, or some other type of ethnic hair.

In many cases, wigs made of Caucasian hair can look spectacular on an African Americans. However, wigs made of authentic African hair will contain the texture and feel of the wig-wearer's own hair. While some people care more about how the wig looks than how it feels to the touch, many don't feel comfortable if they wear a wig that does not feel natural when they run their fingers through it.

Wigs Come in All Shapes and Sizes

For an African American who enjoys wearing wigs, there are many different wig cuts, styles, lengths, and colors available. It is becoming more and more popular for people to own several wigs and wear a different one depending on the day or the outfit that is going to be worn.

Wigs provide an outlet for self-expression, and if a "wild" look is wanted one day, that look can be easily achieved... If a "cute" look is wanted another day, that is entirely possible too. No matter what style is wanted on a particular day, it can be achieved with the help of African American wigs.

Some individuals choose to wear the same wig every single day, and for these people it may be impossible for strangers and even well-known acquaintances to know that a wig is being worn.

Human Hair Wigs for African Americans

If a human hair wig is wanted, it can be made from hair that originally grew on a person with ethnically dark hair. This does not necessarily mean that the hair has to come from a black person. Sometimes, natural hair wigs for African Americans are made from hair that originally grew on a person with an Italian or Hispanic descent.

Synthetic Hair Used for Wigs

When synthetic hair is used for wig-making purposes, it is made in all textures, colors, and styles. It can easily be matched with an African American's natural hair.

The main issue with owning a wig made of synthetic fibers is that it cannot be restyled using any sort of heated hair appliance. Heat can cause the wig fibers to melt and possibly become damaged beyond repair.

Highest Quality African American Wigs

For any person who is intending to wear a wig on a daily basis, it's important to compare and contrast wigs that are made of natural human hair and those that are made of synthetic fibers. Some may prefer the look of one over the other, but no matter what type is chosen, the wig should be of high quality - which usually means it will be more expensive than an "off the shelf" wig.

African American wigs can be used for several purposes, and whether they're for covering an area on the head where hair loss is occurring or if they are being used to help a person change their "look," a high-quality wig can make all the difference.

Arthuretta - Wigs come in all styles and lengths. You can search online for manufacturers of the exact type of wig you're interested in and see what styles they offer; we are not a wig retailer and we do not sell wigs. Best wishes!

My son has a skin disease (he is 27) and needs a wig to cover his head. Are the only wigs you have locks? do you have short cropped Afros?
