Bikini Waxing

Bikini Waxing Removes Hair Near the Underwear Line

Bikini waxing is a relatively common procedure. It is something that both men and women undergo, but it is a much more common practice for women. Waxing around a person’s “private” areas is popular because many people do not want any sort of body hair showing when they wear skimpy bathing suits or underwear. Waxing this region of the body is common not just in the United States, but also in other countries all over the world.

The Procedure

Because of the location of the hair that will be removed, anyone undergoing a bikini waxing must remove his or her pants before the procedure can begin. If a skirt is being worn, it does not have to be taken off, but it must be lifted or pulled out of the way. In most cases, the underwear does not need to be removed.

So that a person’s underwear does not get covered in hot wax, which is difficult to remove from clothing, the person administering the waxing will put either tissue paper or a towel between the underwear and the skin. Other service providers will provide a pair of disposable paper underwear for the client to wear during the procedure.

The next step is for the esthetician to take a device that looks like a popsicle stick and dip it into a vat of hot wax. Upon pulling out the correct amount of wax, he or she will spread a layer of the wax on top of the bikini-area hair. A piece of fabric or cotton is then placed on top of the hot wax. This is used to help rip the wax off the skin.

Faster Ripping is Better

The truth is, getting a hot wax treatment for the purpose of hair removal is not fun, and it can hurt. The pain can last for several hours or even a day after the procedure is complete. A pain reliever such as aspirin or Tylenol can be taken before the waxing is administered to help prevent any pain that may linger after the waxing is complete.

One trick to making the waxing treatment less painful is to make sure the esthetician rips the wax strips off as quickly as possible. Ripping slowly can cause more pain, and make the entire process fairly miserable. The best way to endure a biking waxing is to get it over with as quickly as possible.

After the Waxing

When the waxing stage is completed, the esthetician will likely use tweezers to remove the few hairs that may have not been caught by the wax. However, once the entire hair removal process is complete, a layer of either cooling gel or oil will be gently rubbed on the area to help soothe the skin.

Why Waxing?

Waxing the bikini area is much more effective than using a razor to remove hair in that region of the body. Using a razor has many drawbacks including hair stubble and razor burn.

Waxing works because it rips the hair from its follicles, which encourages the follicle to (hopefully) eventually stop producing hair. When hair does grow back, it tends to be less course and thinner. Since the hair is removed entirely, it takes quite a while for the hair to grown back, so the results of waxing can last for several weeks.

Basically, according to many people who endure bikini waxings on a regular basis, the pain involved with a bikini waxing is well worth the results. Luckily, the pain associated with a normal bikini waxing is nothing compared to a Brazilian Waxing, which removes ALL of the hair in a person’s “private” area, or a Hollywood waxing, which utilizes hot wax to remove ALL of the hair on a person’s body, except for the hair on their head.

Thanks for the expert insight and tips, Beauty Therapist!

Sometimes, therapists simply cannot get the hair to come out. It varies from person to person. I am a therapist and I can say sometime I have trouble getting some of it out but other times I can get it all no problem! It really does just depends on your hair growth cycle, how you remove it, etc. Alot of people blame the therapist for not being able to remove all the hair but there is no-one or nothing to blame, it is just one of these things. For tweezing, an ice cube or cold compress to numb the area would help during tweezing.

Rach, A warm compress can help soften the hair and make tweezing go more soothly. Another alternative to tweezing is a bleach designed for the bikini area - some women have reported success with this method. Good luck!
