Eyebrow Threading
From LoveToKnow Hair
What is Eyebrow Threading?
When a person wants to shape or thin his or her eyebrows, “eyebrow threading” is usually not the method that comes to mind first. More common methods of shaping or thinning eyebrows are the use of hot wax or tweezers. However, eyebrow threading is said to yield impressive results, not matched by any other method of hair removal.
Eyebrow threading utilizes thread that is twisted around the hairs on the eyebrows. Then, the thread is pulled sharply, and every eyebrow hair attached to it is removed. The result is a very straight eyebrow line. The hairs that are removed are done so by the follicle, so the clean-looking results can last up to a few weeks.
An Ancient Tradition
This manner of removing unwanted hair from the eyebrow region, and also making the shape and of the eyebrow lines sharp and clean, has been around for centuries. It originated in India and has also been popular in the Middle East for many years. It is a technique that is not yet well-known in the United States, but it is growing in popularity because of the results it produces.
Threading is the Best Method
Most beauticians will agree that eyebrow threading is better for a person’s skin that using hot wax to remove unwanted facial hair. The skin near the eyebrow region can be very sensitive, and using wax on it can lead to break-outs, skin irritation, or even burned skin. Also, hot wax can cause the skin to peel or become wrinkled. This is why using a method of removing unwanted eyebrow hair that does not involve the application of any sort of heated substance or chemical is seen as beneficial.
Using tweezers on eyebrow hair is basically the same as threading the hair, but a pair of tweezers is only able to capture one or two hairs at a time. Also, when using a tweezers, there is no guarantee that the hair will be pulled out by its follicle. Tweezing eyebrow hair can be a time-consuming process, and cannot produce an even eyebrow line the way threading can.
Using a razor to remove unwanted eyebrow hair is not recommended. Razors do not remove hairs from their follicles, and they are often difficult to control. An eyebrow shaped with a razor will most likely look strange and full of stubble.
A New Beauty Phenomenon
Eyebrow threading is not the most common way to get rid of unwanted eyebrow hair in the United States, but it is quickly becoming the desired method by many. Because it has not yet become commonplace in most United States cities, the service is not available in all salons. However, as people are discovering that this is a proven, effective, cost-effective and quick way to shape and thin their eyebrows, threading is sure to become a more common practice across North America.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Eyebrow Threading
One of the best aspects of threading, when compared to waxing or plucking, is that it is an inexpensive service to receive at a salon. It’s also a quick process and it produces superior hair removal results. Many also say that it is the least painful way to get rid of unwanted eyebrow hair.
The most negative point associated with threading are that it is not always easy to find an experienced person to perform the service. It’s usually possible to find salons that offer threading in most large, metropolitan cities. However, in small cities, it may be next to impossible to find a threading technician.

Jyoti - If you know how to thread your brows, that instruction should have included a discussion of the best types of thread to use (there are several, depending on the thickness and texture of your brows). I'd suggest consulting with an experienced threader for a proper assessment of what you ought to use, and they may have supplies you can purchase as well.
-- Contributed by: MayntzI like my eyebrows threaded, but can you please suggest what kind of thread I can use. I do know how to thread, but do not know what kind of thread to use.
-- Contributed by: JyotiI was introduced to threading about 4 years ago by a fellow classmate. Her eyebrows were stunning and I asked who did them, she told me, I went and the rest is history.
Threading is definitely superior to other methods. At first it does hurt and like the other contributor stated, my eyes teared up to.
