Female Emo Haircuts
From LoveToKnow Hair
Female emo haircuts have become one of the most popular fashion trends for today's teens.
What Is Emo?
Emo (“Emotional”) finds its roots in punk and alternative music. With less of a hard age than punk rock, emo fashion has become increasingly popular among today's younger generation. Many people stereotype the emo look with self-injury and black mascara, however many healthy and happy teens get emo-specific hairstyles just for the fun of it.
As the emo movement has become more and more popular in the United States, more girls are sporting female emo haircuts. Schools that otherwise have a strict dress code are sometimes lenient with the shaggy 'do that seems to stem more out of a desire for self expression than anything else.
A Word of Caution
No matter what sort of hairstyle you are going for, remember you are best off choosing one that will suit the shape of your face. Ripping a picture out of an indie rock magazine and bringing it into the salon with you is much easier said than done. Little is achieved if you force a carbon copy upon yourself that just doesn't compliment your facial features. Part of the fun of the emo look is found in its freedom of adjustment and personalization. Instead of duplicating a look, be bold enough to modify a female emo haircut just enough to flatter your own unique face. Emo fashion is all about stepping out of the box, so don't be afraid to express yourself through your new haircut.
This is worth noting because the emo community is known for having a large group of followers they call “posers.” Being a poser can cause you to be bullied by those who consider themselves to be “true” emo, and so it is important (like any other unique sect of fashion) to stay away from looking amateurish. Get the look right the first time so you don't have to worry about taunting from classmates or coworkers.
Who Gets Female Emo Haircuts?
Teenage boys are the main demographic when it comes to this style, however female emo styles have been enjoyed a skyrocketing popularity in recent years. Girls who choose the emo look usually have brown or black hair. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but overall, blondes don't follow the emo style nearly as effectively as those with darker strands.
Emo is not the same thing as gothic, and many young teenagers make the unfortunate mistake of dying their blonde hair black or a deep red in order to attempt an emo look. Again, just be yourself. If you inherited fair skin and light hair, schedule a consultation with a stylist and discover what part of the trend may look best on you.
If you are a girl not ready to lose her long hair for the often sought after short emo shag, consider getting your hair cut in uneven layers and experimenting with dye colors that are out of the ordinary. If you're ready to cut it all off, you don't even have to visit a salon. Trust a good friend and a pair of quality shearing scissors to get the job done. Messy hair is a key part of the emo look, so create a style which is anything but contrived.
What To Use
With female emo haircuts, the first thing you will want to do is experiment with the wide variety of gels and sprays available at your local beauty store. The shaggy look is further emphasized with sculpting gel. If at all possible, use conditioning styling products to reduce the risk of damaging your hair. If possible, do not sleep with product in your hair. This can cause stress to your hair and possible damage.
Part of a Generation
Female emo haircuts associate you with a portion of today's culture that is continuously expanding. This generation will go down in history with the bobby sockers and the hippies as an unforgettable trend. Wear your hairstyle proudly and remember to always be unique and express yourself – the true key to the emo look.
