How to Get Emo Hair

From LoveToKnow Hair

If you want to know how to get an emo hair style, you must be ready to embrace all the elements of emo culture before you can break convincingly into the emo genre; in fact, perhaps the question shouldn't be "how to get emo hair" as much as it should be "How can I become so credibly emo that my hair will follow?"

Thoughts on How to Get Emo Hair

Whether you're male or female, emo culture transcends gender, much like most musical movements. It's not hard to acquire an emo hair cut. All you really need to do is take a short jaunt through musical history, survey the evolution of emo music, and decide which hairstyle best reflects your understanding of emo-ness. Then, simply take a picture to your chosen salon professional and have her snip away. Be sure to ask about style maintenance and any hair products necessary to fortify your fabulous look.

Choosing amongst emo artists for the ideal haircut won't be overly difficult either, considering that most emo styles are very natural in terms of cut. Bangs are essential, and if you have extremely curly hair, you'll probably end up using a hair dryer or straightner consistently in order to get the desired droopy effect.

However, if you've mastered how to get emo hair but your lifestyle is conspicuously non-emo, you will not do justice to the look. As with all subcultures, each piece works intricately to magnify the other. Without certain necessary components, you'll just look like a person with peculiar hair.

Evaluating Your Emo-ness

Recognizing just how emo you really are is essential to pulling off the look of emo hair. First off, it's obviously important that you actually like emo music or else your hair is just cute and not creatively significant. So if you're a fan of Beethoven or Whitesnake, you are clearly shooting blanks. Moreover, are you employed in corporate America? Do you appreciate capitalism? Again, these factors are blatantly not emo.

Now, if politics depress you and, after four years, you are still not over your ex-boyfriend, then you might be emo. Do you always sit in the back row and journal during lectures, church, or any conference-like event? This behavior is also emo. In fact, stereotypes linger for a reason, and the emo culture is as much defined by music as it is by a specifically listless and glum attitude. The emo frame of mind would be a lazy form of nihilism, were it not too lazy to pick up a copy of Turgenev and make the correlation.

Emo Culture and Your Hair

Your attitude will be reflected in your hair. If you are excessively task oriented and you attack your hairstyle meticulously so each strand lies perfectly in place, then you are more valedictorian than you are emo. Emo hair should be casual with minimal products and coloring. It is related-to but not in the same culture as hardcore punk, and so excessive spiking, bleaching, and accessorizing is not definitively emo, though moderate amounts are acceptable in the culture. Remember, you must be as bored and glum about your hair as you are about your existence! This rationale is critical to your ability to blend in with the rest of emo culture.

That is the crucial characteristic of how to get emo hair – get something different from traditional styles and cuts to emphasize your own unique take on life and style.
