Katie Holmes Bob Hair Style
From LoveToKnow Hair
With a new husband, a new baby, and a new life, it's no wonder there's a new Katie Holmes bob hair style to go with the mix. It's easy to maintain, out of reach of the baby in most cases, and offers her a fresh appearance to go with all of the other changes in her life. Should we mourn her long locks or embrace her current short style?
New Look: Katie Holmes Bob Hair Style
As when any celebrity gets a new 'do, the tabloids and gossip blogs had a field day over Katie’s new bob hair style back in June 2007. Everybody had an opinion, whether it was that it was a chic new cut for a woman with a newborn or that Tom made her do it (along with changing her name to "Kate").
Rumor has it, she made a copycat move, following in the footsteps of her new best friend (another "something new"), Victoria Beckham, by chopping off her hair in favor of chin-length tresses. She still has the same glossy chocolate color that sets off her green eyes so well, though. For pictures, go here.
For even more pictures, a comparison of her hair cut against Victoria Beckham's, family photos, and a little celebrity gossip on the side, visit The Hollywood Gossip.
Even though the jury is still out on gossip sites, celebrity blogs and the like, Katie's cut is apparently popular enough among the rest of us. She made it to the cover of Short Hair for Winter 2008. Her hair style, a "chic, piecy bob," is predicted to update more of the average Jane's head than any other 'do during the first quarter of next year. If you're yearning for a copycat 'do, you can pick up a copy of the magazine and take it to your hairstylist for reference.
The Long and Short of It
Katie Holmes' bob hair style isn't as severe as other Hollywood starlets who've taken the plunge and gone under the scissors/razor. Her hair still has swing, bounce, and a little bit of wave, drifting toward her face in a "C" shape, reminiscent of her longer hair. Sometimes a girl just can't give up the femininity of long hair. Who could blame her, though? She gets the best of both worlds.
In contrast, some female celebrities who have decided to cut off their hair into a bob style have opted for the wedge look, longer in front than in the back. The back is stacked up so that the curvature of the head is more visible and the hair nearest the nape of the neck is short and unmoving. In some cases, the sides are razored to leave a wispiness that also barely moves and looks a little more masculine than Katie's hair cut.
Katie found the perfect balance between baby-friendly, grown-up hair (short) and the sweet, girlish charm she was known for before she became "Mrs. Cruise" (bounce and movement).
Even though Katie Holmes fans may mourn her long tresses, they will have to admit that "Kate" Holmes does look chic, stylish, and still girly. She's not that teenage girl from Dawson's Creek anymore; she's a sophisticated, grown-up woman with a husband and a baby. Kudos to her for not being afraid to show it through her hair style.
If You Want a Bob Too
If you want to follow Katie's lead (and Victoria Beckham's by default), it's easy to do. Bobs are one of the most universal hair styles on the planet. That means they look good on almost everyone, and you don't have to go to a superstar stylist to get fabulous results. Just keep in mind the maintenance required if you have curly or wavy hair but want a pin-straight bob. You can wear it curly, but if that's not the look you're going for, you'll want to avoid the bob. Humid days and lazy days will do you wrong. It's best to leave a little length so you can pull your hair up and go.
The same bob styles won't work for everyone. If you have a high forehead, opt for a few long, sideswept bangs. If your face is round, you'll want a longer cut than chin-length. Heart-shaped faces will need layers to hit at the jaw line and below to balance out the narrow chin. Look through hair style magazines to find face shapes similar to yours and observe what makes those bobs work. Chances are they'll look good with your features, too.
Maintain your celebrity inspired Katie Holmes bob hair style with a smoothing, shine-enhancing product like TiGi's S Factor Flat Iron Spray, then run over it with a ceramic straightening iron. If you need volume, the bob's easy to style with a round brush and a blow dryer. Generally, the bob offers the illusion of thicker, more voluminous hair anyway, though.
You don't have to be a wife, a mother, or a celebrity like Katie Holmes to enjoy the ease and sophistication of this cut. There's a bob out there for everyone.

Joyce - That's a great length for a bob, or you can investigate Inverted Bob Hair for a trendier look than a casual bob. Best wishes!
-- Contributed by: MayntzI'm getting a bob-like haircut tomorrow, and was wondering how long I should get it. I am a tennager and I don't want to look too old (in a bad way). I was thinking just above my shoulders (like 1/2 an inch - 1 inch). Is that too long for a bob???? P.S. I have a heart-shaped face. Thanks!!!

Your stylist can recommend the best products for your hair type and texture while still creating a fun bob look, but be sure to use salon-quality products for the best results. Enjoy!
