Wavy Hair Styles Ideas
From LoveToKnow Hair
When it’s not straight and not curly, it can be hard to make hair work, but there are a number of good wavy hair styles ideas out there, both retro and modern, and they don’t all involve messy hair or fussy blow drying. From long layered waves to short hairstyles for thick wavy hair, you can flaunt your lively locks in a variety of ways.
Current Wavy Hair Styles Ideas
Smooth, Sexy Waves
Very popular right now are “beachy” sexy waves. If you already know how to manage wavy hair, you don’t need to do a lot to make this hair style work, although you will need some good product. If your hair is on the coarse side, use something that smoothes it out, without too much straightening, when your hair is wet. Brush the product through and then do a light blow dry for volume, if needed. What you want to do is use your fingers to guide your hair into controlled waves with a touch of curl that bounce around your head. Some waves will be tighter than others, adding to the natural look. Use a hair serum for shine and a touch of spray to hold the waves in place.
Loose Waves
Other hot current styles are defined loose waves. When done right, they have a look that’s at once styled and yet wild. Even if you already have wavy hair, what you want to do to get this look is apply a good defining hair product on dry hair and then rock a ceramic straightening iron back and forth down the head, following the hair’s natural pattern. Be sure not to use a brush. This style takes hold and looks great when you let your fingers do the work.
Ideas for Styling Short Wavy Hair
If you want something cute but more of an easy care hair style, go for a short layered cut that will bring out the most of your waves. For styling, use some defining product on damp hair, working the waves with your fingers. You can let it dry naturally or use a diffuser with a blow dryer. Use a bit of gel spray on the dry hair so that it will hold.
For hair that is a bit closer to chin length and layered, you can do either a 1920s style, or a modern, gently messy look. For 1920s waves, the most effective way to style is with old fashioned long pins. Working with damp hair and your natural waves, sculpt the waves more definitively with gel and then insert the long pins to hold them in place until they are dry. Blow dry with a diffuser, then remove the pins and spritz with hair spray for maximum hold. If the waves are more controlled than you like, use your fingers to soften them up.
An easier and more modern hairstyle involves simply applying mousse to damp hair and then blowing dry with a diffuser, working the waves with your fingers. Finish with a light holding spray that isn’t too stiff.
Long Waves
For long waves, you can use the same basic styling techniques as for shorter waves, but you need to allow a little more time and effort. If you want something retro, like Veronica Lake’s famous 1940s do, you should try the technique of running the styling iron over your own waves and then using either your fingers or a curling iron to turn the ends under.
For natural, medium waves in longer hair, use some styling gel and work through damp hair with your head bent forward. When the hair is dry, apply shine serum and holding spray. You will have pleasingly tousled waves that bounce around your shoulders.
Tips for Wavy Hairstyling
Wavy hair will dehydrate and frizz more easily than other styles, so you must concentrate on finding a hydrating product that works well for you. Use combs rather than brushes and let your hair dry naturally whenever possible. The better condition your hair is in, the easier it is to experiment with fabulous wavy hair styles ideas!.

Thank u Jordyn -- Contributed by: jordynSarah - You could try adding layers that may simulate waves in the back so you won't have to straighten your hair frequently, or you can investigate a more unique option that is shorter in the back, like Inverted Bob Hair, where you can have it more wavy in the front but the back is much shorter.
