Hi,

I am the maid of honour at my best friend's wedding this september. My hair has been natural since 2003 and am at a loss what hair style would be suitable for the role. What do u think I shd do to my hair. Thanks

Hi Nina, It certainly sounds like you are taking the correct steps for healthy hair. You may wan to try extra protein treatments in addition to moisturizing, or try a natural hair polish that contains UV protection to keep sunlight damage at a minimum. If the amount and frequency of hair coming out easily seems excessive, you may want to consider consulting your doctor, or consider a hair specialist that may have additional suggestions or products beyond the healthy routines you are already doing. Good luck to you.

I have the same problem. I have been growing my hair out natural from my perm for a year now. I have about 2 more inches to go and it will be all natural. My hair is very thick and tight curls. I cannnot wear it down because my ends are straight and the rest is tight curls. It is very hard for me to style it.

hi, i have a relaxed hair and would like to change it to natural or afro without cutting it. Is this possible and if so what do u recommend i should do.

I decided to go natural about 2 years ago. Since then I have been going through numerous hurdles with my hair. First,I suffered a bald spot in the back of my head because my relaxed hair got tangled with my natural hair and formed numerous notts. Although the spot is no longer bald it is the shortest part of my hair and it is very sparse. Second, my hair started to grow but then it became stunt. So I experienced slow growth and then the right side of my hairline started to fall out. I don't braid my hair tight at all nor do I allow others to do so. I got angry and I clipped my split ends on my own which resulted in shorter hair. So my hair is very short but growing now and the right side of my hairline also grew back. Now, my hair seems to be weak. While washing it when I pass my hand on my hair lightly without tugging or pulling on it, it comes out in my hand. I don't know what to do because I eat healthy and drink lots of water. I also deep condition my hair with coconut oil and honey every two weeks and I shampoo my hair with Nexxus luxury moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Then I braid my hair and put ultimate herbal oil in it. The oil is comprised of several natural oils as well as vitamins.I am frustrated and lost.

I have worn my hair natural for the past four years and I have a 4b/c hair type, but my only problem now is due to my every and now then press n' curl, my natural hair has lost its original hair texture or pattern, I guess I can say. In other words, I have lots of new growth, but my ends of my hair about 1 inch is extremely straight, so therefore I'm not able to wear my hair in a afro or do double strand twist w/out my ends looking really straight on the ends. I miss wearing my afro and my natural twist, but I dont know what to do. I need help.

Sheneka - Congratulations on going to a natural look and for eating properly to take care of your hair. It will fill in quicker than you think, but in the meantime you may want to consult with a natural stylist to help determine how best to conceal your thinner spots, since the styles will change based on where they are. You can also check out Hairstyles for Thinning Hair for some additional tips. Best wishes!

I have grown out my relaxed hair and it is now natural. The problem I am having is styling when my hair was relaxed my former sylist did not wash out all the chemicals and my thick hair became extremley damaged and thin. I had several bald spots and was uncertain if my hair would ever fill in. I hve began taking Vitamins B, C, Biotin and conditioning my hair every week and now have now seen my hair fill in where i didnt have any hairs. My question is what styles can I get to camouflage the damage until it fills in my thin area is in the crown?

Nikisha - I'd recommend you take the time to experiment with several different styles that you like so you can see just what would look best for prom. A new natural look can take some getting used to, but it can look fabulous.

Erika - You'll need to find a stylist experienced with natural looks. You can ask friends for recommendations, or visit different hair salons for a consultation and to speak with stylists who may be able to work with your hair type.

Chiyona - Yes, hair texture does make a difference. You might need to add some natural products to help your hair maintain the style properly. See Natural Hair Products for Blacks for more tips.

I have tried the twist outs and comb outs...but mine doesn't look "good". Can the hair be too soft, too fine, or too tightly curled for these natural styles?
