Someone - Some men can grow a thick beard in just a few days, others take a few weeks, and some men aren't able to grow more than patchy facial hair. Since you're only 16, it's likely that your hair cycle is not set yet, and it will take you longer. You can try to grow it now if you like, but it may not have the thickness or coverage that you'll have when you're older.
-- Contributed by: MayntzSilas - Everyone has different opinions about what makes a beard style great, and you're right, they can look nice even if they're not trimmed or shaped. It just depends on the type of beard style you want and the look you want to maintain.
-- Contributed by: MayntzI'm sixteen, how do you know when you're old enough to grow a beard? I can already get some stubble and over a week my dad's already begging me to shave, but on a week it doesn't look at all like a beard yet, just some "dirt" on my face. How long should I stop shaving for to know if I am able or not to grow a beard?
-- Contributed by: SomeoneI disagree with your statement that "beards must be maintained." The coolest bearded historical figures like Jesus, Santa Claus, Charles Darwin, and Gandalf the Grey sure didn't do much to maintain their beards. I think the best beards are the ones that are left alone to do their own thing (irregular growth, bald spots, and all)!!
-- Contributed by: silasMitch - Young men often have irregular facial hair growth, particularly when the facial hair first appears. As you get older and more mature, it will thicken and grow longer if you let it. Your best option for now is to find a beard style that will work with the pattern of hair you do have.
-- Contributed by: MayntzThank you for the clarification, Steve - different men have different sensitivity to beard growth and it is good to know that reactions vary between individuals.
-- Contributed by: MayntzHi, Im Mitch, I'm 16 and I am beginning to get blonde stubble on my chin and upper lip and a darker sideburn growth.
My problem is that it doesnt seem to grow more then a CM and then just stops. Will it grow longer or am I stuck with barely visible facial hair my entire life?
-- Contributed by: MitchThe article isn't quite accurate with regard to the itching. A new beard growing in does not itch in the first few days. When hair is very short or medium-long, it doesn't itch. The itching happens roughly around the second week of growth, and may last for up to a week after. But rest assured, it will eventually go away. The idea that full-grown beards itch is a total myth.
-- Contributed by: SteveHi Tilak: One suggestion would be temporary beard color, which is sold at drugstores. Another thought is that despite even though you're young, a little white or grey beard growth can create a look that is very distinguished - so you may just want to experiment with different beard styles!

Strange as it may seem, prenatal vitamins cause hair and fingernails to grow more quickly. Time is by far the best thing you can give your beard. You'll look silly for a while, but so what? I made a site to do...ent your beard's progress with other growers if you want to feel better at sweetbeard dot com

-- Contributed by: shelarAyan - Where facial hair grows is a matter of genetics; some men don't ever grow facial hair in certain places, and no product can enhance what isn't there.
