Carmen - You're absolutely right that pomade can clog pores; I should have been more specific to say that it could be used only on the ends of the hair to keep it from curling, not over the entire scalp. Pomade can be a very strong product, but overuse can damage anyone's hair.

Kevin as a black woman to a black man might I suggest that you do not use pomade because mayntz should know that pomade can clog the pores in your scalp this is not good for black people. Strong hair spray will only mess up the ozone layer. Maybe you should get someone to put some decorative beads on the ends of your hair this will keep the ends from curling up. If your natural hair curls up at the end of your braid this is a good thing a sexy thing be proud of it or take a rubber band and put it on the ends of the hair to weigh down the braid this just might help too. But stop using the pomade find some other non oil based solution. Sister to brother peace

Kevin - You could try a pomade or very strong hair spray for better hold to keep your hair from curling up. Another solution is to simply braid to the very ends and as the hair is being braided, be sure to add the product to it to keep it smooth. If the braids are too tight, that can also make them curl up -- see Loosen Tight Braids for more tips.
