Caree - Bleaching can be really damaging to hair, and stressed or damaged hair can react to coloring differently. Be sure to moisturize and condition your hair, get split ends trimmed off, and eat a diet for healthy hair to get it as strong as possible before you try coloring. Also, be sure your colorist knows what you've done to your hair in the past so they can adjust their treatment to compensate.

Joyce - If your hair is a really dark brunette, you can add some highlights to it for a richer, brighter brunette shade. Check out Highlighting Dark Hair for some great tips.

well i think that brunette hair rocks! its awesome. depending on the individuals style, we each own a color. i just been having some difficulty with being able to get the color i want on my hair! ever since i got it bleached...any suggestions?

what if you have almost black hair

Cheryl - Your best bet is to get a hair color consultation from an experienced stylist. Since you're looking at quite a few treatments to get the color change you'd like, you want to be sure your hair is in good condition to withstand the coloring. They can also recommend the best shades for you, not only to cover your old color but also to match your skin and eye colors.

I have dyed dark brown (base4-5 roughly) with red flashes through my hair. I want to go chocolate brown (shade 5) with golden caramel blond highlights shade 7). should i prelighten (bleach) my hair first to get rid of the red then dye my hair brown and put in the highlights (foils) at the same time or should i prelighten, dye all over brown and then bleach/ghighlight the areas for the blong again?

Annie - If the dye isn't working right on your base color, you'll need to try out different formulas that will give you the results you're interested in. You may need to touch up the color first, or dye your hair a different base color that will work with whatever style you're interested in.

How do I keep my hair from turning out red on top? When I dye it whatever color?

Moriah - You can also try Hair Lowlights Shades to add a deeper color to your locks without a complete dye job. Best wishes!

I have light brunette hair with natural red tones that usually only show up in sunlight or diresct light. I was thinking about dying my hair a darker brunette.

Kendall -- For natural looking highlights, you don't want to go more than 2-3 shades lighter than your hair color. You could opt for a starker, Two Tone Hair Color if you want a trendier look. Check out Highlighting Dark Hair and Right Hair Color for You for some more tips.

I have really dark brown hair and i'm wondering what color highlights i should get?

-- Contributed by: Kendall

A particular hair color cannot make you look younger, but if your hair is healthy and the cut flatters your face, you'll look fabulous. Adding highlights or lowlights can enhance the color of your hair as well, giving it more depth, and that can help accent it as your best feature.

Manhunk - Hair color will change with a variety of factors, including age, sunlight, health, and nutrition. If you want to keep your same shade, you're obviously doing something right, but gradually it will probably lighten as you age, though that day could be far in the future. Best wishes!

My hair is so dull!! It's really irritating... I want highlights, but don't know what colors to go for. Different sites tell me contradicting things! I also have long hair, but am getting it cut very short (chin-length & shorter layers). Are highlights the way to go??

its ironic though my hair doesnt change color since the day i was born. for how long can i keep up with this light brown hair?

-- Contributed by: manhunk
I love my dark brown hair (black-brown shade). It fits me and my Italian-Cherokee Indian heritage. I love it. I will never, ever lighten it anymore (I used to be Blonde for 5 years).
BRUNETTE is for me...Thanks...

i have light brown hair and i was thinking about puting like a color from the rainbow like red or pink in my hair just like on the sides of my face where my hair hangs down

what color should i do?

-- Contributed by: brianne

First, don't try to do a radical color change for your first time -- you might be better off with hair highlights or lowlights to see if you like the added color. You can also use a temporary type of dye so you can try different colors to see if they look good on your hair, with your skin tone, etc. I'd also recommend if you do want a full dye job, get it professionally done first for the best results -- then you can learn how to do it yourself once you know how best to do it. Good luck!

Unonimas - Red highlights in blue hair can be done, but it may provoke some interesting comments about patriotism or punk styles. If that's what you're interested in, however, go for it, but be careful to keep the colors very separate (chunking would be the best option) or else you'll have purple edges where the colors meet.

Can i get red coloured hilites in my blue coloured hair!!!!????!!!!????!!!!????!!!!????!!!!????!!!!????

-- Contributed by: Unonimas

Rae -- That sounds like a great color combination, depending on how bright your caramel color is. If it's a really light shade, I'd recommend going with deeper brunette rather than straight black so the contrast isn't so sharp and it blends more naturally.
