I am emo and there re many veriations. of the style. bright colors. black/dark. band names. or variations of all those styles. every "emo" has a differnt style of their own and our hair. is never like someone elses hair. bright colors in with black or white/blonde. and cut in spots. so you can get it up higher. side spikes. teasing.

Abby - You don't want your hair style to cause problems with your mom, but if you want to express yourself with an emo look you can try showing her pictures of the types of looks you like so the two of you can compromise on a style. You can also talk to her about temporary looks that use temporary hair dye or clip-on hair extensions, so she can see the look on you before getting it permanently cut. Best wishes!

Rachael - Whether or not you want your daughter to dye her hair is a personal decision between you and her. Summer would be a great time to let her try it because it won't interfere with school dress codes (some schools have policies about hair color), particularly for streaks and unnatural colors. You can get Clip On Hair Extensions in different colors that will let her add bold colors and change them whenever she wants without affecting her natural color, and that may be a great compromise for you. Emo hair... is simplyy amaxingg.(: the traditional emo hair.. that band guys have that is long.. is my favorite. i have had a couple emo cuts.. but people grow out of it eventully. but emo cuts are still sexii as hell <3

emo hair styles range more than just those. there are some guys who have really short hair in my class who also have emo hair, and guys like me with medium hair who are emo, and guys with hair to their butts who are emo. hair is a poor way to describe somone as emo. true, hair is a big part of it, but anyone can do hair. it is how the individual feels that makes him/her emo.

Jamie - I suggest finding a friend you can team up with to experiment with at-home color and trims. It can be difficult to do yourself since you can't see all around your head to check every inch, but having someone help can make it less stressful and more stylish. If you're really freaked out about it, consider saving up enough to have it done at the salon just in case it doesn't work out trying on your own, that way you can see if you can do it without risking anything since you'll be able to fix it if necessary.

I am getting an emo cut I am donating over 15 inches of my hair to cancer to make wigs. I've been growing it out for a while to do that. The problem I have is my hair is extremely curly. I got hair stylist to try straightening it took two hours and it still wasn't straight it was just a bit flat. Is there a way I can straighten my hair so it will work?

My boyfriend is a total emo and he has black hair with red streaks and it's sort of swept to the side or whatever. It looks better on him than me. Some people just don't look right with 'emo' hair. I'm totally prep so I stick to more neater, prettier styles that go well with my Hollister obsession. I guess if I did want to change my image, I'll go for 'emo'.

I have emo hair. I didn't even know that was what I had! I'm 28 with super straight hair, the texture of Japanese hair. We have to layer it a lot to get any kind of volume. I also wanted an artsy edgy look. I have the side swept bangs because my fiance loves them. I dyed my hair chocolate brown because I have brown eyes and pale skin and it just went with my complexion better. I have emo hair. Who knew!

Just because some one has an emo hairstyle, whatever way it is, doesnt mean that you're emo. Im not emo but i love the way the hairstyles are, so i always style my hair like them, i can be emotional sometimes but im not emotional enough to be called an emo... apparently i am an emo to some friends but yeh lol. I get labeled emo at school but I just do what I think is best for me I don't follow instructions on how to be that way like a poser would. I like the article because you really can't categorize people just by there hair, some of the die hard preps at my school have blond emo cuts but it doesn't really look emo on them.

Ahh, I hate the word 'Emo' its such a naive view. Why cant people just dress and look how they want to without being tagged. A mate of mine said the other day that a mate of his had 'turned emo' just becuase he grew his hair longer. At least this site isn't as naive as some sites or people I've seen.

if you have straight hair thatn you should try Herbal Essences- Dangerously Straight shampoos and conditioners. Blow dry your hair, and straighten your hair. My hair's curly AND short, so it's a major advantage. use hairspray also and don't JUST spray it: after you spray your hair run your fingers through it and make sure it's STICK straight. atleast that's how i do my hair every feakin' morning.

Hey. Emo hair requires hair, but as an Emo-boy, my hair has neve been easier. It can last a few days too (often 2). Use a serem for shine and light hold on damp or dry hair (high end, high shine, I so <3 Tigi Control Freak straightening serum); comb into place; air dry. Fluff-out with a hair-dryer, touch up with a round-brush for definition. Avoid flat-ironing. It looks limp and often lanquid and it dries your hair to pieces if used regularly. Run a high-end finishing product (like Black and White Pomade) through your hands, then dust through hair, accenting pieces. Other tips: for hold, rather than shampoo, wash with a deep, high-shine conditioner (Pantene)more regularly than you shampoo. :)

Well im emo..emo can be many things. There hair isnt always Jet black. For instance my hair is Pure white snow color with Black and Neon Pink Streaks underneath! I haven't seen any greasy "Emo"s before. For one thing its not just the right eye their hair falls over (and they don't always have it over and eye)and its not just black hair. Their style ranges from blondest of blonde to jet black. Sometimes they even have fros. so...while your description isn't wrong..exactly..its too narrow to actually classify the style.

Rhianna -- You might try smoothing serums or leave-in conditioners to help your hair have less frizz, or some Sedu Hair Styles to smooth the curls. If your hair doesn't have a lot of volume, you can still have an emo style with curls, too.

i like the "scene" look more so than emo. though you guys dont have that on here. you can really only find it on myspace. well i have really blonde hair nautually. i want to get emo bangs, at the tips i want altering black and hot pink dye and in the back i want streaks of black through out. i have think hair and would like it to look thiker. i want my hair to stay medium long. i think ima do it myself.

this is completely rediculous. emo isn't a hair cut. "emos" isn't a term to decribe people who like emo music. this is not what emo is about. at all. and i take great offense to this. take this down or you will just look completely ignorant to anyone who enjoys eo is a music genre. because that's all it is. emo is music. nothing more. the correct term you are looking for, i think, for your article is "scene." go look it up.

To me calling people emo is the same as walking down the street and calling some the N word. How may i come to that conclusion? Well, for me... one word could never describe me, especially not the word emo, or punker, or indie rocker. People basing a personality type off of the style of their hair is bullshit. I have longer hair. So im emo? Last night as i walked out of a bar in Alaska with my band i walked out first and this black girl and her boyfriend (by the way, im not racist, nor do i condone it) but she walked past our keyboardist and said "EMO!" super loud and then bumped right into me. She stopped, looked at me totally embarrassed. I wasnt going to say anything because I think i didnt need to, she was already thinking it "im an asshole, for labeling someone" and in my opinion she is reinforcing stereotypes instead of defeating them. That goes to everyone who feels they need to label people. I think these people for the most part have their own identities. Define yourself, dont be defined by what someone else thinks you are.

this is for april(emo freak) I say you straighten your bangs and go all crazy in the back with spiking it and stuff cause it wont matter if its curlly all people will see is the messy coolness. and it only takes about 15 minutes in the morning before school. oh yea and to spike it and mess it up at the same time you should you a hair spray that is as strong as glue. like assiue something.

Ash, you can straighten it with a really big round brush and a blow dryer. Just put a little product in it (gel, mousse, whatever), then when it is almost dry, pull it straight (gently) with the brush while you dry it. Alternate with cool air, or periodically move the blowdryer away from your hair.

The main thing about "emos" isn't the hair...and we prefer to be called scene kids...anyways the main thing is the music we aren't looking to be cool or accepted there are ALOT of posers lately but true scenes know whos scene and whos not. We aren't followers either we do what we want and we aren't all depressed or cut...Just thought I'd clear that up.

what you have to do is, grow it out until the fringe is about half an inch or maybe an inch over your eyebrow then straighten it all (with hair straighteners). But make sure you straighten all of your hair. that way it'll look 'emo'. then you're free to dye it whatever colour you like if you wanted to dye it.this is how i did my hair and people seem to like it alot so i must be doing it right!

Lately, I've been seeing more variations on Emo styles including "spikes" at the top of the head, toward the back and lots of extreme side layering. I also see a lot of emo hair that is not black, but brown, blonde and all sorts of other colors.

A lot of the Emo girls wear really heavy, black eyeliner, too.
