Caity - It can be difficult to modify a classic French twist for short or medium length hair, since the style needs longer hair to be tucked beneath the twist. Check out Cute Hair Updos for some ideas!

how would you modify this for short hair? my hair is right above the shoulder length. thanks

Angie - Generally, the front of a French twist is very sleek and just smoothed across the forehead. You can have smoothed out bangs if you want, or for a more severe look, pull the hair straight back leaving the forehead exposed. The key is to keep it all very minimalist.
