Kelley - It takes several hair donations to make a single wig, and there are no manufacturers that track specifically which hair is donated to be made into a wig for a particular person. You can check the "where to donate" links above to investigate the different organizations, however, and perhaps work with one of them for a wig and have your niece donate her hair to the same organization for a wonderful connection.
-- Contributed by: MayntzI have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be having a mastectomy next week. I will most likely undergo chemo and radiation, so I know I will lose my hair. My niece, very graciously, has had her hair cut and is planning to send to me so that I can have a wig made with it. Are there any organizations that will take a donation for a specified recipient? If not, where would I go to have a wig made?

Before you get your hair cut, just ask the stylist or let them know that you want to make a hair donation. Another way you can do it is to cut the hair off in a ponytail or braid yourself (cut the hair above the rubber band, and do NOT take the hair out of the ponytail), and then visit a stylist for your new look.
-- Contributed by: Mayntzi was just wondering how u find a salon or barbershop that will cut the hair for you to donate.
-- Contributed by: AlexKatie - You'll have to contact the individual donation companies; many don't accept gray hair because they're working more exclusively for children's wigs. Some will accept gray hair, however, so just ask!
-- Contributed by: MayntzTomeka - We are not a wig manufacturer and we do not accept hair donations for any company. In many cases, dreadlocks are too difficult to style into a wig and the hair in them has been damaged so it cannot be used. You can always try to contact specialty companies to see if they are interested in your unique donation.
-- Contributed by: MayntzI have about 80% gray hair and I would like to donate for a senior with hair lose but do not know where to go. Any suggestions? My hair is about 9 inches from a pony tail.
-- Contributed by: KatieI wanted to know why you don't except dreadlocks?I think you can make awesome wigs out of dreadlocks(there are alot of children)with dreadlocks.I just cut my dreadlocks to start them over& I thought i could donate my hair to see you guys don't except dreadlocks am very disappointed...
-- Contributed by: tomeka mcraeGeorge - Most manufacturers require hair to be between 8 and 12 inches for a donation, and it can take 6-12 donations or more for a full wig. Check out these articles for more details: Locks of Love and Donating Hair for Cancer Victims.
