Stephanie - With a reaction that severe, you should see a dermatologist or your physician for a consultation. You may have had an allergic reaction or there could be other issues to be concerned about. Different chemicals can interact differently, and it's better to be safe!
-- Contributed by: MayntzI used Vitale Perm 2 days after washing my hair with Nioxin #8 treatment system .My scalp is severly burned. I have been receiving perms all my life and have never experienced chemical burns this severe. Can you tell me what you think may have happened????? I will continue to use nioxin just not in the same capacity. My scalp is healing but its really scabby right now. Thanks
-- Contributed by: StephanieThis was a very informative site! :) I experienced the redness AND the hair falling out but its only been about a week of using Nioxin. I was curious if this was a possible side effect and sure enough it was. Thanks to this site for all the information about this product line.
-- Contributed by: JaredI did not think it worked at all and I developed a couple of sores on my head after using it for several days. Would not suggest this product.
-- Contributed by: ShedderThanks for sharing your experience, Jenn, it's great to hear the other side as well!
-- Contributed by: MayntzI have been using the product for 2 weeks now, and have not had any of the horrible side effects described above. I did notice the extra hair falling out, but that has already begun to stop. It might be wishful thinking, but I actually think I have new hair growth already! I would recommend this product for the simple fact that if you compare it to other scalp tratments, it's way better, as far as "possible" side effects. I bought some Rogaine and kept it for a week before I took it back because I was afraid to use it.The rare instances where people have reactions to Nioxin are not even comparable to what might happen with others. I have had 2 strangers comment on my hair color. They thought it was out of a box, even though I have never colored my hair in my life. All because my hair is so shiny and healthy now. So yes, I would highly recommend this product.
-- Contributed by: JennThanks to everyone who has shared their experiences. If you have a severe reaction, consult a physician for assistance.
-- Contributed by: MayntzLast night (July 27, 2008) after shampooing and using the scalp treatment (conditioner) and the scalp treatment that you leave in, I had a bad reaction with elevated temperature, itching, red streaks and splotches from my chest to the top of my head, and hives. I took a Benadryl tablet to try to counteract the effects. About an hour later the hives, elevated temperature, and red splotches and streaks had all but disappeared. I have had some residual itching today. I think the culprit is the "leave in liquid spray. Anyone else experience this?
-- Contributed by: DanaLately my hair has been falling out and thinning . I decided to try Nioxin. The first two times i used it I was ok. I just loved the way my hair felt.
The third time i used it about an hour after i used it My heart started raceing, my body started to shake, I started to hyperventilate,I got diarear{Spell Check}My heart was racing really fast. My arms from my elbows down felt tingely and funny. This reaction lasted about two hours. It really scared me. But, I thought that maybe I was having an anxiety attack.
So I waited a week and tried it again. But,, This time the reaction was immediate. The symptoms started all over again. I washed it out right away, but, The same reactions still lasted over an hour.
So I wouldn't recommend this product to any one. The side effects are to severe. And it was a terrible experience.

-- Contributed by: SissyEve - Be sure to consult your physician for treatment of your allergic symptoms; unfortunately, many people have allergic reactions to different medications, and your situation is not unique.
-- Contributed by: MayntzI have been using Nioxin for almost a month and had an allergic reaction. Numbness on lips, arms and legs. Tightness in arms, hands, and legs, dehydration in all my skin. Redness on face and arms. Hives on face and tighness in throat. I thought I was having an anxiety attack but it is an allergic reaction. Would like to know if anyone else has experienced this. Please some respond. Thanks
-- Contributed by: EveLil - This is why it's important to always read ingredients; some blends of cleanser may have different active ingredients.
-- Contributed by: MayntzNioxin cleanser does contain sodium laureth sufate!
-- Contributed by: LilBrandon - That bulb may be the hair root as shedding continues. Be sure to follow the treatment appropriately and report any severe side effects immediately for proper medical treatment.
-- Contributed by: MayntzIve been using Nioxin for about a week and a half now, didnt notice anymore shedding that usual but now everytime i run my hands through my hair some comes out every time. Is this normal. The hairs that come out have a very small white dot on the end. Possibly a very very small bulb. Seems like my hair has thinned in diameter and thinned over my entire scalp, moreso on the top of my head.
