I come from a family of redheads, my mother, brother, sister and myself. However my two girls are the only ones that the gene got passed to. I remember as a kid hateing my red hair. My 10 year old daughter loves her red hair. She has decided to do a speech about redheads, wish her luck.

I'm a natural redhead and hated it growing up. But now that i'm older I love it. Only problem, if you have long red hair, natraly, most hair styalists won't cut it. At least that's been my problem.

seriously, i absolutely love being a redhead. Even tho my hair is naturally red i still like to play around with other shades of red than my original shade. it's never boring to be red!!!

i have red hair and absolutly love it! i love being unique and different. i stand out from the crowd. Not tanning is the worst part sunscreen has become my best friend in these summer days. i always get asked where my red hair comes from becuase both my parents have brown hair and blue eyes. my grandpa was a red head though. i have 3 younger sisters and we all have different hair. 1 has dark brown, dirty blonde and then light brown we got some crazy genes over here!!! so to all of u who dont like ur gingerness ull learn to love it. :P

Im a natural redhead and always have been. I dont listen to people who try to bring me down about my hair colour thats there problem. Loads of people choose to die there hair this colour and I feel lucky to have been born with this colour hair. However a year ago I started to put blond highlights in my hair as I did start to listen to some people and got sick of the comments. I was told it looked nice with the blond in. Now im not sure what to do as the highlights are growing out. Should i re-do them again or let them grow out and be a natural redhead again. Im not sure what to do :S

I am a pure bengali girl who lives in Bangladesh.One of the Asian country's where almost everybody has dark hair with brown complexion.However, dispite of my parents moderate skin tone and average dark hair,I was born with RED hair with fair skin.Freckles grew on me badly,and my skin color does not match with my race.I always kept on wondering why is it like this!though my grand pa has brown hair and fair skin like me but my grand ma and my younger brother has back hair.My hair color always described me in one word,"the Red hair Girl" in my school.Though i hv lost that red tone, its now more turning into copper but sometimes after washing my hair its comparatively light.I like dark hair.I dont know if I should turn my hair dark!Sometimes i feel bad ppl of my own country thinks i am from a western country.but i am used to it now :)

I'm not a natural red head, as a child I was a strawberry blond and as I got older my hair had darkened to a dirty strawberry blonde and I have always had natural red highlights. When I started high school my dark strawberry blonde didn't look natural on me and it made my green eyes look very dull. I started colouring my hair a natural red colour in high school and everyone thought it was my real natural colour if they didn't know me personanlly. The red brings out my green eyes. I colour my hair also as a remberance of my grandmother and my Irish heritage. She was a red head and my mother is brunett with natural red highlights. My younger sister is a natutal platinum blonde bomb shell. I wish I was a true Ginger.

You really should love your natural Red hair...When I was a girl i always felt like the odd ball.. Untill I met an older couple that both were red headed. They were always especially nice to me I gues they understood.Despite boyfriends that said I need a tan(((Right)))! And The dark hair and skinned beauties that always hated me and made fun every chance they got...I kinda felt bad then about me...But I will tell you This I am 50years old and I most certainly do not look it...And We are beautiful....the hardest thing I face now is tring to find a color in a bottle that most closely looks like my own before it started to fade and turn white arround the edges...And her is one more good thing.. i never colored my hair untill 2 years ago....It did not fade much untill I was almost 50...you are rare and you are beautiful....If not why would so many others constantly be coloring their hair red????

When I was younger I didn't care for my red hair. But as I got older, towards my preteens, I eventually accepted it. By then I didn't mind being 'different' even though, as far as I can remember, was never teased for having red hair. Maybe is was because I had light red hair, strawberry-blonde, whatever. I know my cousin who's the same age as me, liked my shade of red better, her being one of those with bright red hair. But there was a time when I would have preferred to being blonde because that was what my mom was naturally as a child, until it turned brown, but you can see red glints in it because her father had red hair and so does my dad. In fact, red hair is on both sides of family, my dad's mom also had red hair, so go figure that all but one of my siblings ended up with red hair. My second to youngest brother ended up with my mom's hair color. Anyway, but sometimes now I wish I was a brunette, the kind with rich brown hair with the red glints.

My 7 month old is getting in more and more red hair everyday and at first my husband (dark brown) and I (dirty blonde) were concerned but we're seeing just how beautiful is. It has changed both of our opinions and outlook on redhair and redheads.

As a child, I was made fun of everyday for being a redhead. I now look at those who made fun of me and laugh because they are getting their red out of a bottle. My hair is awesome. I get at least one compliment per day. We are definately a rare breed. I like it that way.

Haha its funny how us all ended up with red hair. My mother is blonde with blue eyes and my father is a brunette with brown eyes. I got the brown eyes from my dad, but no one in my family has red hair.. I somehow got it :)

my hair is awesome! :) it is naturally strawberry blonde, which is red and blonde all mixed together. But you wanna know something weird? NO ONE in my family has naturally red hair. My hairstylist says that many people try to get my color with dye but it doesnt come out as pretty as mine. My hair also gets lighter and darker with the seasons. Like it gets dark in the winter and fall and in the summer and spring it gets lighter! Thats why i love my hair!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

The gene for red hair has to be on both sides of the family and can skip up to ten generations. My dad has black hair and my mom has brown, but my great-great grandmother on my mom's side and my great grandmother on my dad's side both had red hair, so here I am.

Georgia - Red hair is a recessive genetic trait; your parents are just carriers for the genes controlling red hair color. Ask about your grandparents, aunts, and uncles -- at least one of them probably had red hair!

Julia - Hair color can darken with age, particularly in men. If you have red hair and are wondering why based on your parents' hair color, the explanation is genetics -- brunette hair is strongly dominant, but both your parents may be carrying recessive genes for red hair that you inherited.

Joanna - Multiple coloring treatments -- to remove the black dye and to color your hair red -- can be harsh but not unmanageable. Be sure your hair is healthy first; drink plenty of water to keep it hydrated, eat a diet for healthy hair, and use a good conditioner to keep it in top shape. I would love some advice on how to colour my hair a nice, preferably dark but still radiant shade of red. My natural hair is light/medium brown, but I've been dying it raven black for the past two years. My skin tone is quite fair, but with a slight olive tint to it, as it's mediterranean skin. I don't know what lightener to use to get the black out safely, and dye it red safely too. And how much would it damage my hair? Please help.

As gray hair intrudes on the red, that will make it lighter. Exposure to sun can also naturally lighten hair, no matter what your age.

yeah i have like auburnish red hair with a bunch of diff. colors in it for some reasin. it very different. and most salons and peple i tell i wanna dye it, they think im crazy and love my color. i used to model for 9 years until i got into highschool b/c of my schoolwork and stuff. but anyways i dont have as amny friends b/c i have red hair. i really wanna dye it like a brunette color or brown or sumthing. my mom and dad dont want me to dye and they dont even want me to cut it short or anything. i hate it though. im so tired of being t a redhead. what should i do?

I am an attractive natural strawberry blonde. I have dark green eyes with orange and gold splashed through them that looks different. I dye my hair blonde and still do because i have felt ashamed for having strawberry locks and i was teased at school. I was scouted to be a model when i was 17 and had my natural locks. I still felt i was stared at and and looked at for my hair. I was uncomfortable. It seemed as soon as i dyed it blonde i lost count of how many boys feel over me and wanted to date me,it was like they weren't scared of me anymore. It boosted my selfconfidence i felt normal. Every hair salon loves my natural colour and tell me to leave it. My boyfriend wants me to leave my hair alone and have it natural he loves it, he says im more beautiful and im me.

Heather - Yes, your hair may still have some of the pigments, but they may be acting more like highlights or lowlights than an overall color change.

I am a natural red head, but every so often I like to permanently dye my hair a rich auburn. Now my hair doesn't naturally hold color very long. I dyed my hair about a month ago, would it be possible that there are still red pigments from the dye in my hair?

I'm a natural redhead, and proud to be one. I can't understand why anyone with red hair would want to dye it another color. It makes us so unique! The only thing I don't like about red hair is that clothes companies make shirts for blondes and brunettes, but not redheads. Its almost as if they're sending a message: "Redheads don't exist." Anyway, I love my hair and will never use a dye with it!

I have naturally red hair with natural blonde streaks, I have fair skin. I am wanting to go brunette, but my main concern is my eyebrows are blonde, do I leave them or have them dyed as well? Also I have never dyed my hair before, so if I don't care for the colour what do I do?

My friend has orange hair, she put a burgundy colour through it and it looked really hot! It was only a few shades darker but it suited her really well. Have you considered this (as opposed to another colour?)

Well, of course it depends on what kind of change you are looking for. Most lighter red hair looks fabulous with highlights - you can add blonde highlights for a good strawberry blonde look. Or, you can go to any of the darker reds like a copper or burgundy... If you want a more extreme change, you need to consider your skin tone and whether it can support the new color. Most redheads can go blonde quite nicely, but darker colors usually look pretty stark if you have really light skin (perfect if you want a Goth look, tho!)...
