Amani - You can make your face look more slender by making sure your hair isn't adding to the width. Avoid any styles or lengths that end at your cheeks; instead, be sure they're either shorter or longer to give the illusion of a different shape. With the right style, any face shape can be beautiful!

There are many ways to determine face shape, including drawing on a mirror, measuring from crown to chin and ear to ear, and outlining your face on a photograph. The key characteristic of a round face shape is that the face has nearly the same dimensions in both directions: width and length. Measurements do not need to be precise, but generally round face dimensions vary by no more than one-quarter to one-half inch. A round face typically has a soft, rounded chin, wider hairline, and the cheeks are as full as the cheekbones.

Most people€s faces are not perfect examples of any shape; a round face may have a somewhat pointed chin or slightly uneven dimensions, but if your face fits most characteristics of this shape, you should consider hair styles suitable for round faces.

It has about two or three layers all over. I saw it on one of the girls but she had it done in Mexico. I sure don't want to go there.BUT!!!! Can you please help me and show me a picture of it. or a copy of pictures that you know what I'm talking about. I can put it together. Thanks

Hi kinz, Growing your hair out would weigh the hair down and in many cases it will appear less curly when it is a longer length. You may also want to view these articles for more suggestions on curly hair styles:

hi. I have a small, round face with a side fringe and VERY curly hair. (Curly as in crazy, bad looking.) I straighten my hair everyday, but I was wondering if i grew my hair out longer, would my curls stretch out or just get bigger and poofier? My hair is pretty thin, but it has thickened out a little bit and now it's just about normal. It is maybe... a half an inch past my shoulder when straightened and is pretty poofy to begin with. Any ideas? Thanks much.

Vercell - Check out the following articles for tips: African American Natural Hair Styles Interview, Natural Hair Products for Blacks, Black Hair Care, Best Moisturizer for Black Hair, and Shampoos for Natural Black Hair. As for the Hair Extensions, if your thin hair is strong and healthy then they can add plenty of length and volume, but if your hair is damaged, brittle, or weak, they can cause even more trouble and breakage. Consult a stylist experienced with black hair and extensions for an evaluation of your hair. Best wishes!

Taylor - I'd recommend taking pictures of styles you like to a hair salon and asking the stylist to adjust the look to suit your face shape. A good stylist should be able to make those adjustments so the look is right for you.

HELP!

i really want a new hair style, and i have a round face so i've surfed the net non stop for pictures of hairstyles that would suit my face shape. i've only found one that i really like and unfortunately, the girl in the photo.. doesnt have a round face! i just can't find anything i like for my face shape!

i want short-ish hair, and layers but i dont know how to get it done so that i dont end up looking like a total idiot. what can i do?

My bangs are up to my eyes and my hair length is up to my mid waist. My hair is in layers. The shortest layer is up to my shoulder.

If you have really thick hair alot of the time is will always get weighted down and pulled flat on top... one can always suggest layers to help the hair lift better on top, or volumizing products. there "are" some good volumizing products most of them are at salons. the more professional products work better then the drug store brands.

I just think most hair looks good when its teased ( not crazy frizzy teased, a smooth nice look) fluffy on top,(in roots and crown) even with thick hair there is a way to make it work. dont necessarily have to cut it, just find a good styling method that works...

MIA>.. How long is your hair and how long are your bangs...and is your hair just striaght?...

I dont no if this hair style works for every one.. but i find it flattering and fun to do...im 19 and like fun styles and funky teased updos..

if you know how to tease, tease the top layers of your hair dont worry about making it perfect make it messy, (just remember to only tease the hair from the underneath not on top or from the front other wise it gets frizzy) then gather enough hair to make a half pony tail more or less what ever suits you and put it up using a tie or what ever. Make a big rooster kind of style, (Really big and fluffy in front) The sides/loose hair can stay striaght. and the rest in the pony tail you can tease a little to, make it kind of fluffy. Just tease the hair in the pony in all directions it really doesnt matter or how ever you want.. it adds volume threw out the hair kind of balances it out so you dont just have a puff in front and every thing else completly to flat.. this is just a fun hair style more of a retro look.. also depends on a persons age!! haha ^_^

im not very good with hair cuts.. but there and alot of styles you can try that make a difference as well..just have to expieriment

hmm I have a round small face as well and I am only 5-2 1/2 also haha.I think hair lenght does affect your height in certian ways.I have been told I look shorter and quite bigger, because I have curly hair that is all one lenght and is past the middle of my back. I have layered bangs but they start way down under my face. Wearing my hair curly I always tease the top up by the roots to help balance to curls so my hair isnt so flat at roots and fluffs outward towards teh bottom, but my hair is so long it always drapes over my shoulders making me look quite bulky. When I had my hair shorter like a little past my shoulders before it grew out, people said it slimmed me out and I looked taller... but I dont care I still love long hair.. it looks better when I straighten it and tease to top big, either with no part just come it all together and fluffy. Or with a good side part with hair that is longer on the one side sweepin almost over the eye (not emo, but i guess they think it is).. Giving volume on top and letting it loose on the bottom helps balance a face as well. Then striaght hair very flat on top which makes a face look wider, I think to. I also think with round faces like the info that was said above.. Volume in the hair in the roots helps alot!.. try it out.. if any one doesnt know how to tease.. ask your moms! or any one that has lived threw the 80's fads haha they can give you good tips... there are many ways and versions of teasing... just depends what look you want... Or Ask a salon stylist, they should know a few things to help to..

I have a round face and thick hair. I have no volume on the crown of my head. I have bangs but they don't flatter my face structure. Any suggestions on what kind of bangs i should get and a hair cut to add more volume to the crown of my head.

Demetria - Your hair style can affect your height, but a pixie cut should look fine depending on your facial features. While your face shape is an important factor, you also need to be sure you aren't going to over-emphasize one part of your face over another.

Rebbeca - Sideways bangs can look fine on a round face; for a bit more length, be sure to keep the bangs just a bit longer so they don't emphasize the "round" too much.

i have a round face and i'm just wondering if sideway bangs will suit my face?

I'm getting a hair cut tomorrow, I don't know whether I should go for the pixie cut, I'm planning on leaving my short fringe (just above my brows) I have a round face by the way, I'm only 5'2,the reason I gave out my height was because I think my hair does affect my height? I'm not afraid to flaunt my skin, should I chop off my hair?? Please reply! my email address is blindark_con_nect_ion@hotmail.com

Hi Nicole and Nidhi,

There are many hairstyles that work well for round faces other than layers. Ideas include:

  • Side parts
  • Medium length wavy hair
  • Mid-length wispy cuts

Although much hairstyle advice advocates de-emphasizing round faces, this face shape is seen on many of the world's most beautiful women. The key is to finding balance. A bit of fullness can help balance a round face and make you look your best, but with the volumizing products available today, you can have one-length voluminous styles as well as full layered styles.

Browse the Hair Style Pictures Galleries for more ideas. Good luck!
