Mikail - You can use just about any brand of hair gel, but if your hair is a bit curly you'll want to be sure to use a product with stronger hold so your hair doesn't curl back up. Experiment with a few different types to find one you like that has the hold you need.

-- Contributed by: mikailI'd definately recommend cutting her hair to a short style to eliminate the damage, and avoid doing such tight braid styles in the future. Twists may be a better option for her hair if it is that delicate, because they aren't quite as tight. Use a good quality conditioner too, to help keep her hair moist and healthy no matter what the style.
-- Contributed by: Mayntzhi, i have an 8 yr old african american daughter. i had let her get braids, which she wore like a month, and now her hair seems to be breaking off badly due to the braids. her hair used to come down to her shoulders, but now the back has broke off so bad,and so has the front, i was wandering if i should just cut it all short in a short style. please tell me your thoughts asap. thank you.

If you choose to relax it more frequently, be sure to use really good moisturizing conditioner; hot oil treatments are a good choice too. I'd recommend you check with your stylist for their recommendations for your specific hair type.

-- Contributed by: deeHi Cooper -- Cutting your own hair can be tricky depending on the complexity of the style you're interested in. In your case, the easiest may be just a uniform buzz cut; set the clippers to a good height that you're comfortable caring for, and use smooth, even strokes over your entire head. Overlap strokes a bit to be sure you don't leave any ridges, and then use a shorter setting to shave and trim the edges for a nice, clean finish. I hope that helps!
-- Contributed by: MayntzHello,
I love the website. I'm a black man and I'mn having a problem getting a good hair cut as I'm working in a small town in Australia. I just got a good Wahl clipper and I wanted to start cutting my own hair. How do I go about doing that? Thanks.
-- Contributed by: cooperHi Ron,
Thanks for your encouragement! We love to hear our readers our enjoying the site. One of our latest articles addresses your very question -- check out Hair Trimmers for more. Good luck!
-- Contributed by: Amy FinleyHello,
Great website! I am an African American male working and living in the remotest region of Thailand where there are no Black barbers. Thus, I do what I can to cut and trim my own hair. I always keep it short and tight.
My hair clippers are on their last breath of life and need replacement. Can you recommend a good hair clipper w/attachments?
Thank you,
Ron
