Jacqueline - You can try taking pictures of shrot cuts you like to your stylist so they can get a better idea of the type of cut you're interested in. Talk with them about the best style for you, and while it may not look exactly like the pictures (they'll probably make adjustments to suit your face shape), it can look fabulous.

Chelsey - You're right, short hair can look great on women and girls if it's an appropriate style for their face shape and lifestyle. Choose carefully, and you'll love your new look!

i like some of them but everytime i decide im going to get mine cut it gets screwed up

I think short hair looks good on girls and can stay 'girly' and sexy if they choose the style carefully. Its really easy to frame the face in and bring out beautiful facial features. I have long choppy hair, but I want to go medium or short. I think it's very eye catching.

Hi Denise, Unfortunately we can't send any photos since we use stock photography for our articles. You could let your son know that the longer shags and seventies styles are very popular right now, but it's still essential to have regular trims for healthy hair. I would suggest looking at hairstyle magazines or you could try google images for pics. Good luck!

My teenage son is overweight and thinks the only way to look good for him is a long messy mushroom look. His ends look bad and slightly cooked. Is there a long kind of shag you could recommend and send a picture of so our beautician could cut.

it doesn't take forever to get it dryed because when u walk peices fly everywere and it dries like that and so.. lol and ya u do need to cut it alot because short hair tends to get shaggy and grow longer its just used to being long like all the other cave-men b4 us. =) not saying were all cave-men but w/e

Short hair doesn't split as badly because it usually isn't as badly damaged. The natural oils secreted by your scalp can get from your head to the tips of your hair, and the hair itself isn't as old.

Cecil - Yes, any hair can get split ends if it isn't regularly trimmed, but most short styles are trimmed more frequently than long hair and so the splits don't show as much. As for how long it takes to dry, that really depends more on how thick the hair is and how you're drying it (air dry, hair dryer, etc.).

-- Contributed by: Mayntz

Short hair DOES get split ends easy if you dont get it cut like once a month and it takes FOREVER to get it dry!

Sheik - The type of shampoo you use is based on your hair type, texture, color, and other factors. Check out that link for more information.

Tiffany - Everyone's hair grows at different rates, and none of it grows really quickly. Healthy hair will grow the best, so be sure you are not using a lot of heat styling tools or chemical treatments on your hair. Eat a diet for healthy hair and drink plenty of water, and check out the tips in this article: How to Grow Your Hair Long for more information.

i need some help my hair is not grown like it need to.SO HELP ME!!!

-- Contributed by: tiffany

Melanie - Hair grows about an inch or so a month, at most, so it can take quite awhile to grow out layers depending on how short they are. Trimming the longer layers can help even up the style first so it will look neater as it grows out. You can also try eating a diet for healthy hair to keep your locks looking great and to promote faster, healthier growth.

I had my hair cut short for a long tme. I'm wondering how long will it take to grow out? If i straighten it out the layers end at the end of my neck. How long do you think it will take to grow out?

My mother says that I need to have my hair cut short, but I have a square face and I'm rather fat. I'm only 14 and already 5'9. (Height and age seem to matter, or so my mother says.) Should I get my hair cut short or not?

i had my hair cut and the hairdresser gave me a really short bob with some layers but really roughly done! HELP!! I don't know how 2 wear it with style!

Short hairstyles can look really great on round faced women. Shortcuts and short hairstyles are often very noticeable because of the way the hair is done. However, bangs are a great way to lighten up a short hairstyle and compliment it very well. For those who fear or think they look terrible in a short hairstyle, try one with playful bangs which should compliment the look very well. The hairstyle is a very popular choice for a lot of men because it provides a very strong look. The hair is tousled and formed to give definition to the sections.

I was looking for pictures to help me determine a good haircut. My face is round/oval and I've had it cut short before and I liked it but I was looking for something that would make my already baby fine/thin hair look a bit fuller. I thought that the article would have had links to hairstyle that I could have looked at but it didn't. The information was helpful a bit however I was a bit disappointed.

It's almost summer so I had my hair cut short. It is now a buzz cut and I love it. So easy to keep and cool.

Hi Ally,

If your hair is very thick, a good stylist can do some thinning if you want a sleeker look. Also be aware that even with plain or simple layers, two stylists may create very different looks. Once you find a stylist you like you may want to return to s/he for future cuts. Also check out Layered Hair Styles, Medium Layered Hair Styles, Layered Hair Cuts with Pictures, or check out our main page to browse for more pics.

Hi Julie,

If your hair is long enough for a small ponytail, you should have no problem attaching a hair extension. Check out Clip On Hair Extensions for more info. and where to buy.

Hi Caroline,

It sounds like your face shape might be nearly oval. While other face shapes often benefit from hair cuts that balance the face, almost any hair cut looks flattering with an oval face. Check out Short Hair Style Pictures and Women's Short Hair Style Pictures for more short hair cuts. Good luck!
